Review of the Ritchey WCS Apex II 46mm Wheelset

 

Ritchey WCS is synonymous with high level, high quality, the second tier component level and what from Ritchey describe as “the gold standard for lightweight, bombproof race parts and cutting edge innovation”… and defined by the rainbow stripes with a nod to all the world champs that have won on the Ritchey marque.

 

Curiously, at the time of going to press this clincher wheelset from Ritchey seem to have become unavailable, obsolete in fact, with a new 2016 range of Ritchey carbon wheel sets already marketed and available – the 46mm Apex II now superseded by new and exciting updates.

 

The new 2016 WCS carbon wheelset range has been updated, clinchers with tubeless ready technology, tubular options and an improved rim-braking surface, as well as wider rims and disc-brake versions, whilst eschewing the 46mm depth option (for shame in my opinion, more on that in a bit), but maintaining the Ritchey Phantom Flange WCS hubs at the centre of the wheel range.
