Efneo Gearbox offers 3-speeds to any frame without modification

If you have ever thought that there must be a better way to change gear than with the traditional front derailleur, then maybe the Efneo 3-speed front gearbox is what you’ve been looking for…

It’s a system more akin to that used by motorcycles with a single cog at the rear wheel and the gearbox mounted up front. The makers claim that it makes changing gear, and thereby the whole process of riding a bike, much simpler; it even gives you the ability to change gear whilst stood still for instance. The change is said to be quicker and they reckon it makes any bike look much better.

It doesn’t require a dedicated frame design, a major advantage which means that the Efneo can be used on urban, hybrid, trekking, folding, non-competition off-road, e-bikes with a rear wheel engine, and most excitingly for us, even single-speed bikes.

All the other systems currently offered are 2-speed whilst this is a 3-speed. The “middle ring” position allows for a clean and smooth running chain line, requiring much less maintenance. All versions use dedicated axles so no frame modifications are required. The small diameter gearbox gives a clean look and offers good ground clearance. It comes in three colour options…

The gear ratios are: 1st gear 100%, 2nd gear 143%, and 3rd gear 179% of the crank rotation, which is the same as a typical front derailleur bike.

Production will commence from mid to end of 2015 as the gearbox gets put through its final paces. We’re quite excited about trying this out on a single speed frame.
