it might be termed, the ability of the frame, fork, saddle, seat post, handebars and stem to flex to absorb the vertical movement of the wheels of the cycle as they travel over undulations. Achieve this and the cycle will be more comfortable on poor roads, whatever its designation.

 

The Trek Domane solution to this problem, chosen after assessment of a number of possibilities, is to “de-couple” the seat tube from the frame at the point where it intersects with the seatstays and top tube. “De-couple” is Trek’s term; it could be argued that the seat tube is in fact attached via a coupling, or connective mechanism, rather than being an integrally-moulded part of the intersection.
